What’s In Season?

Do you find yourself struggling trying to remember what produce is in season when? I know I go through this all the time. Going to the local farmers market is something I love to do as it doesn’t require me to remember what’s in season, but sometimes it’s not an option. Our farmers market doesn’t open for a few more weeks so I am always thinking about what’s in season when in the grocery store.

Below is a breakdown of the different produce that is in season by season. Remember in some areas growing times are much longer or much shorter so you may have less or more availability of some items.

I don’t know about you but I love to roast fresh vegetables or take a bite out of a super fresh strawberry. As kids we went strawberry picking in Florida and the strawberries were amazing.

It is really tough to eat seasonally all the time, however, when you make the extra effort you are rewarded with amazing meals and treats. I used to live in the New York area and I loved being able to get all of the fresh apples, they were even in our local grocery stores. There is nothing better than a fresh apple especially for a pie, my favorite apple is a macoun apple, so delicious. I made some delicious apple butter with macoun apples.

Take advantage of the local produce in your area when you can and enjoy it all. Don’t forget a lot of farms let you come and pick your own too – always fun for you and the kids. What do you look forward to being in season each year?
