Cooking Up Europe: 5 Must-Try Cookbooks for Wanderlust Foodies

I haven’t had the chance to travel overseas in recent years, and I find myself yearning for those adventures. My last European escapade was in celebration of my 40th birthday back in 2019. To quench my wanderlust, I’ve discovered a delightful way to bring a touch of Europe into my own kitchen—cookbooks. These culinary treasures allow me to immerse myself in the flavors and cultures of different countries, right from the comfort of my home. Even while traveling, you can never sample all the exquisite dishes a destination has to offer, so why not recreate them in your kitchen? Here are five cookbooks that can keep you cooking up Europe in your own…

From Floury Mishaps to Culinary Adventures: My Journey to Kitchen Lit

Why do I blog? I think a lot about what drew me to start Kitchen Lit and it boils down to a few moments over the many years that changed my course in life. You never know what moments are going to turn your life in a new direction, but don’t be afraid to take a leap as it may be what you were missing all along. My culinary adventures over my life lead me to create Kitchen Lit and I am so glad I did.  As a little kid I grew up baking with both my Nana and my Mom normally making chocolate chip cookies, snicerkdoodles or chocolate fudge. Some of my…

    A Literary Picnic

“Whether you’re a kitchen novice or a seasoned home cook, you’ll find recipes here that were made with you in mind,” Alison Walsh. I was so excited to see A Literary Picnic: 5 Menus of Outdoor-Friendly Recipes Inspired by Classic Literature by Alison Walsh as I had previously reviewed her A Literary Holiday Cookbook (see my review here) and loved it. As an avid reader myself I always find myself wondering about the food they are eating in the stories, and it doesn’t matter what genre the book is from. We all remember Mr. Collins and his boiled potatoes comment from Pride and Prejudice. A Literary Picnic: 5 Menus of Outdoor-Friendly Recipes Inspired…

3 Best Cookbooks for College Students

Leaving home for college can be stressful for both the students and the parents. There are so many things you have to pack and do just to be ready. One of the most overlooked is thinking about what cooking skills the students have. A lot of college students now have kitchens and are not reliant on the meal plans for their daily meals.  My love of cookbooks began while I was in college, even though I had a lot of baking experience I had very little cooking experience before college. I remember using cookbooks to help me figure out what to make and how to make the dishes. Wonder what are the best…

    Celebrate National Book Lovers Day

It should come as no surprise that I love books! My parents started reading to us when we were really young and always encouraged us to read. I remember going to the library often as a kid. Heck I still have a library card today as you can get some many books from my beloved cookbooks to the latest fiction and even digital rentals too. I will celebrate National Book Lovers Day by reading some of Love Overboard by Janet Evanovich.  Books allow us to explore in a way nothing else does. One day you can be in the world of a nutty bounty hunter thanks to Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels and…

    The John Wayne Complete Cookbook

“As much as he enjoyed a well-prepared piece of meat, what John Wayne loved best about a meal was how it brought us all together. Gathered around the table, trading stories and laughs, a dinner at the end of a long day of work meant good times and better company,” Ethan Wayne. I grew up watching John Wayne movies – I can’t even remember how old I was when I saw my first one. My Dad’s favorite actor is John Wayne and he loves all of this movies – my Dad has seen a lot of his movies. My favorite John Wayne movies are McLintock! and The Quiet Man, such funny movies and…
