    A Literary Picnic

    September 8, 2023 / No Comments

“Whether you’re a kitchen novice or a seasoned home cook, you’ll find recipes here that were made with you in mind,” Alison Walsh. I was so excited to see A Literary Picnic: 5 Menus of Outdoor-Friendly Recipes Inspired by Classic Literature by Alison Walsh as I had previously reviewed her A Literary Holiday Cookbook (see my review here) and loved it. As an avid reader myself I always find myself wondering about the food they are eating in the stories, and it doesn’t matter what genre the book is from. We all remember Mr. Collins and his boiled potatoes comment from Pride and Prejudice. A Literary Picnic: 5 Menus of Outdoor-Friendly Recipes Inspired…

3 Best Cookbooks for College Students

    August 17, 2023 / No Comments

Leaving home for college can be stressful for both the students and the parents. There are so many things you have to pack and do just to be ready. One of the most overlooked is thinking about what cooking skills the students have. A lot of college students now have kitchens and are not reliant on the meal plans for their daily meals.  My love of cookbooks began while I was in college, even though I had a lot of baking experience I had very little cooking experience before college. I remember using cookbooks to help me figure out what to make and how to make the dishes. Wonder what are the best…

    Celebrate National Book Lovers Day

    August 9, 2023 / No Comments

It should come as no surprise that I love books! My parents started reading to us when we were really young and always encouraged us to read. I remember going to the library often as a kid. Heck I still have a library card today as you can get some many books from my beloved cookbooks to the latest fiction and even digital rentals too. I will celebrate National Book Lovers Day by reading some of Love Overboard by Janet Evanovich.  Books allow us to explore in a way nothing else does. One day you can be in the world of a nutty bounty hunter thanks to Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels and…

“As much as he enjoyed a well-prepared piece of meat, what John Wayne loved best about a meal was how it brought us all together. Gathered around the table, trading stories and laughs, a dinner at the end of a long day of work meant good times and better company,” Ethan Wayne. I grew up watching John Wayne movies – I can’t even remember how old I was when I saw my first one. 5 Cookbooks for Rookie Cooks

    July 18, 2023 / No Comments

We have all been there where we open a new cookbook we bought and realize it is way above our skill level. Do we return the cookbook or give it a shot? Well, it depends on how comfortable you are with risk. For rookie cooks I would recommend starting with a simpler cookbook that can utilize the skills you have while improving on them. As we know it can be disheartening to spend them to make a delicious meal and the recipe fails, it still happens to me sometimes. When you are a rookie cook this can be so discouraging, so I suggest you start with one of the 5 cookbooks for rookie…

If you are a football fan, then you know Terry Bradshaw – he led the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl championships. But did you know he and his family love to cook? In this cookbook they share all of their favorites recipes for all of us to try including Brunch Punch, Baked Cinnamon Doughnuts, Ham and Old English Cheese Casserole, Crispy Egg Rolls with Shrimp, Sprouts, and Peanut Butter, Finger-Lickin’ Barbecue Bourbon Chicken Wings, Smoked Maple-Bourbon Pork Belly Bites, Apple Butter Bread, Havarti and Gouda Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Fried Green Garden Tomatoes, Fried Bologna Sandwich on Texas Toast, Wild Blackberry Muffins with Powdered Sugar, and Louisiana Coconut Cream Pie. As you can see, I had a tough time narrowing down the recipes I wanted to mention – I have no idea what I am going to make first. Probably will let my sister pick!

Funny story, I grew up in Augusta and never golfed until I moved away for college. Haven't played in ages, but spring is making me want to get some clubs again.

Here's a flashback to my 2017 visit to @themasters. It was such a fun day!

Don't forget to phone home from the course as it shows up on caller id as Augusta National.
