    Marinated Mushrooms

About six months ago I was flipping through a cookbook that used to be my Grandma’s. I have had the cookbook for years and looked through it before, but this time a recipe fell out. It was one of my Grandma’s hand written recipes and this one is for marinated mushrooms.  I don’t ever remember having these as a child but I quickly looked at the recipe and wanted to try it immediately. Since my sister and I were going to be traveling to my parents house in Florida, I decided to wait to make them until we were there.  The recipe is very simple but absolutely delicious. Yes, it has a lot…

    Hook, Line, and Supper

“Think of this book as a codex, a master class on fish and seafood cookery. It will enable you to develop your own recipes that suit your time, your place, your season, and your taste,” Hank Shaw. My parents both grew up near the water, my Dad in New Orleans and my Mom in both Maine and Florida. Growing up we spent a lot of time near the water. I learned to fish as a kid but don’t do it very often anymore. Hook, Line, and Super drew my attention earlier this year and I was so excited to finally try these seafood recipes. The cookbook offers so much information on how to…

    Why Cookbooks?

    Why Should You Read Cookbooks?

A lot of people wonder why should you read cookbooks? They think is there really anything new that can be in a cookbook? Will I learn anything from a new cookbook?   I have always found so many benefits from cookbooks. After college I realized I only knew how to cook a few savory items so I began collecting cookbooks. Through my cookbooks I have taught myself have to be a great home cook. They have provided me with a wealth of knowledge and entertainment over the years.  Travel Through Cookbooks Cookbooks allow you to explore the incredibly extensive world of cooking. You are able to travel from country to country with different cookbooks.…

Fresh Start for Your Kitchen: Food

When it comes to food where do you start when getting a fresh start in your kitchen? It can be so overwhelming to start from scratch but don’t worry I have some great tips. Over the years I have moved a lot and when you move long distance you rarely can keep anything from your food.  1. Make a list of all the items you use on a regular basis.  If you cook a lot of Asian dishes there are basic pantry staples that you will need such as soy sauce. If you love Mexican food taco seasoning and fajita seasoning may be on your list.  2. Review my list of pantry and…

Fresh Start for Your Kitchen: Dinnerware, Flatware, Drink & Barware

The most fun part of outfitting a kitchen for me is getting all the dinnerware, flatware and drink and barware. I love to find beautiful things that make me smile when I use them. Searching for your favorite plates is as much fun as using them. Below is a list of the items I want to get to replace what was destroyed by the fire.  Dinnerware Everyday Dishes Chez Nous 16-piece Dinnerware Set I always find white plates to be beautiful but I rarely want to use them. For me I find plates with a little detail make me happier and I love these, just enough to have some interest but not to…

Fresh Start for Your Kitchen: Kitchen Tools & Cutlery

Kitchen tools and cutlery are essential in your fresh start of your kitchen. I am definitely a kitchen tool and gadget girl. There are so many that you can fill up your kitchen with, but which ones must I have on hand?  Below are my most used and loved kitchen tools/gadgets and my must haves for cutlery. Kitchen Tools Can Opener OXO Good Grips Soft-Handled Can Opener I prefer a manual can opener to an electric one. Unfortunately, I have had an electric can opener malfunction more than once and with a manual one it always works. Fresh Start for Your Kitchen: Cookware & Bakeware

A fresh start in the kitchen for me includes new cookware and bakeware. If you want to make delicious meals you need the right vessel to cook it in. I love to have a variety of pans to cook in but you can always get away with just a few to start. If you want to do that I recommend getting a cast iron skillet, a sauce pan and some baking sheets – it’s really the bare minimum to make delicious meals.  Below you will find my recommendations and what I will be picking up to outfit my kitchen for our fresh start.  Cookware Cast Iron Skillet Lodge Chef Collection Skillet I love…

    Fresh Start for Your Kitchen

Are you looking for a fresh start in your kitchen? Have you experienced a new move, a loss or are you just ready to replace the old items in your kitchen? If you are I completely understand, in the beginning of 2020 my 10-year relationship ended and I left our apartment with just two bins of kitchen items. Then my sister and I lost almost everything in a fire in our apartment complex a little over a month ago. (You can read about it here). Since we will have to replace everything from the kitchen we want to have a purposeful fresh start, not just buying random things that aren’t what we want.…
